Afishapa! (Merry Christmas)
Merry Christmas from the the great Country of Ghana! Christmas here is quite different than home. There is not as much emphasis on gift giving and more emphasis on being with family and eating plenty.
We kicked off the Christmas season with a fun tri-zone conference with Sunyani, Techiman and Tamale zone's.
We had a great time performing Christmas music and eating good food together
We also visited Rob and Ann's orphanage. We found some expat friends who do a lot of good work for a orphanage near us. We visit often and try to bring the hope Jesus Christ would want us to share.

I guess they don't see that in Ghana.
We had a really fun time playing tennis in Kumasi with the other couples at Christmas time. We hired a coach to come and teach us all how to play. Then we went to dinner at the Lancaster.
We also had a really nice dinner with 2 sets of missionaries on Christmas eve.
We have been playing a lot and enjoying ourselves for the holidays, but I guess it is time to get back to work. I have been asked to add a little more responsibility to my duties. They have asked me to be a dental coordinator for the Kumasi, Sunyani area. I have been helping out with tooth aches and such. I am glad to help where I can. I have had a nice break from dentistry and I guess I am ready to take a look at these things again in a volunteer way.

I am almost done reading the Book of Mormon again and I have set a goal to read the Old Testament this year. I have also decided to take a break from sugar to see if I will lose a few more pounds. I will try small small. We love hearing from everyone who reads our blog. Thank you for all your love and support.
We are so grateful to be representatives of Jesus Christ in Ghana. We feel so blessed to have this experience. Even though I have had some hard days, I love being a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We know that Jesus Christ lives. He taught us how to live a good life and the path to happiness. He atoned for our sins and disappointments so that we can return to our heavenly Father and feel good about this life. This life is not easy. He died and was resurrected so that we can also be resurrected. He is the way, the truth and the light. As humanitarian missionaries we get to help relieve a little suffering small small. We get to minister to the Jr Missionaries when they are weighed down by all that they carry. We get to help small struggling branches and groups of the church. Although sometimes their humble example helps us more than we do them.
Yes, we do miss our family and we plan on doing a lot of catching up when we get back. I'm glad they understand why this mission means so much to Louie and I and have been supportive of us serving.
We wish you all a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What a great work you are doing. I am reminded of President Nelson when he taught us that missionary work and family history work are the most important things we can be doing at this time. I know the work can be tiring but you are doing so much good. Love you both.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful work you are able to be a part of going on in that part of the world. These are days both good and bad, that you will reflect on for the rest of your lives. What a joy to bring a bit of Christ to Gods children there. So fun to read your experiences and see your great photos. Enjoy your time there!
