There will be a Sunyani Ghana Mission!!!!

Wow!  We were as surprised as anyone else when we heard there will be a new mission in Sunyani!  Sunyani is where we live!  We are happy for our mission President.  He currently serves as mission president to approximately 200 young men and women in the largest land mass mission in Ghana.  He is currently over 5 districts as well.  Travel here is not easy.  The roads are not maintained very well, so it makes you very tired to travel in this area.  We also see that they can start many new groups and get missionaries in areas that they have never been in before.  The Lord is truly hastening his work.

Last Saturday, we had a gathering place expo.  These women were models for dresses that women had learned to sew.  They were absolutely stunning.  They learn to sew these with out a pattern.  I wish I had time to sit in on these classes.

Sister Fuell teaching a group of children "I am a Child of God".  They love to come and hover while I am practicing the piano, so I decided to teach them a song.

This is our dear friends President and Sister Sukar and their new baby.  President Sukar is in our District Presidency.  It is not common to see the Father carry the baby, so I thought this was so sweet how he wanted to break culture a little.  He is a very proud Daddy.  They had a baby pass away shortly before we arrived.  I was so happy to see them on this day.  President Sukar does plenty of work for us couple missionaries.  He built our bed and our wardrobe and also made us kitchen cabinets and chairs and a table.  We love and appreciate him so much.

This was another new group we visited last week.  The group is called Bechem.  The little boy and his little sister who was standing in the front visited with me before church,  They are 6 and 4.  They told me they speak 3 languages fluently.  English, Twi and Fanti.  They were a couple of Jabber boxes, but they sat so reverently during the sacrament.  Elder Peterson and Elder Manuofetoa were disappointed more contacts didn't show up, but we encouraged them to keep working hard and not to give up. We will check on them again.

Wednesday a group of Zone Leaders and Sister Training Leaders were traveling from Kumasi to Sunyani for a mission leader council with our General Authority that was visiting.  Our General Authority was Elder Ojedieron from Nigeria.  All of those missionaries were involved in a bus accident.  Thankfully nobody was seriously injured.  One missionary hit his head on the windshield, but did not cut his head or break his skull thankfully.  Lots of bumps and bruises.  They were closer to Sunyani so they took them all to the Teaching Hospital in Sunyani.  The office secretary missionary (Sister Miller) called us.  We called President Boateng and he was really upset and urged us to get to the hospital fast to help where we could.  Everybody was okay but just a little shook up.  They told us that a Taxi tried to overtake (pass) a bus, but a Tro tro (van full of people) caught the edge of the taxi coming from the other direction (head on) and then the bus hit the taxi and spun it around.  The bus slammed on it's breaks.  Some of the missionaries were sleeping and they got thrown around.  Everyone was checked out and a few x-rays were taken, but for the most part every one was okay.  President Boateng walked into the hospital and a reverence descended on everyone and the hall way filled with this immense love.  He hugged all of the Elder's and Sister's and expressed his love for each one of them.  The missionaries shared with us that the passenger in the Taxi died.  They were all very sad about that.  Guardian Angel's were out in full force today.  We were so grateful everyone was okay.  We were able to get a hold of Sister Frazier (mission nurse).  She just happened to be on her way to Sunyani too from Kumasi a couple of hours behind the bus of missionaries.  She also checked everyone out and addressed any trauma physical or emotional from the wreck.

This is the choir that sang for the general authority, I am playing the piano and Elder Hurt is conducting.

Louie and Elder Jones got to play basketball with the missionaries.  That is actually the first time he has played since he got here.

We had a wonderful week hosting our friends the Frazier's (mission nurse and vehicle coordinator) and the Jones (mission leader support in Tamale).

We have been on our mission 1 year now.  1 year ago November 4th we started the MTC.  It has gone by so fast.  We have been able to meet and serve some of the most wonderful people I could ever imagine.  We are so grateful for this opportunity!  I have learned plenty, but I'm sure there is plenty more for me to learn.
I was reading in the Book of Mormon this week.  I was reading about how Ammon was boasting about his God regarding his mission experience to the Lamanites.  I couldn't help but feel the same way.  I have come to know that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is in the details of all that goes on.  Especially with his missionaries.  We have been keeping little accounts of mission miracles that happen.  It is literally daily we experience them.  Thank you for your prayers.  They were able to figure out our electric issues so we are so blessed and comfortable.  We love you all and pray that you are all doing well.

Love Elder and Sister Fuell

  1. What a beautiful letter. So glad you are keeping this journal; it will pay dividends later. Paul and I are now temple workers in the Draper temple and are no longer working in WVC. We love the experiences we are having.
